Aetna was one of the first health care companies to design and implement a national genetic testing program for breast and ovarian cancer, and make it available to all members in all plans.

The program covers screening for women who are at high risk for having an inherited mutation in breast cancer genes 1 and 2 (BRCA1 and BRCA2).

Through genetic testing, women are empowered to take early, appropriate action to detect, diagnose and minimize the effects of breast and ovarian cancer in the earliest stages of development. The genetic testing program is a standard offering in most Aetna plan designs.
